Introduction of Pasqua First Nation Sports, Culture and Recreation:

The Chief and Council realize that children/youth/community members being involved in extracurricular activites is a step in taking pride in our community and ourselves and therefore making positive choices in our personal lives. I am Cindy Desnomie, Coordinator for Sports, Culture and Recreation.  We are currently in the process of establishing a committee in this area.

This is an unfunded area so band members that require assistance with registration fee's for activities are asked to give a little something back to the community in return, such as working at the fundraising bingo's, volunteering at events, or being a coach for our children.

  • Winter Games will be held in April in Saskatoon. There are currently tryouts being coordinated for each of the events.  There have been tryouts for hockey and is still in process. Volleyball's first tryouts were in CTK and the next one will be in Peepeeksis, February 14th and the third one will be in Regina on Feb 20th or 21st.  Badminton tryouts, February 13th, 2010 at Peepeekisis.  Broomball, Feb 13th Lebret - Girls only Registration at 11a.m Helmet, gloves, shin pads mandatory. Curling will find out the dates.
  • We have approximately 8 boys registered for Boy Scouts in Fort Qu'Appelle in 2010 and eight girls in Girl Guides.  This year we have thirteen youth going to cadets.
  • Valentine's Dance - Monday, February 15th, 2010 from 7pm to 11pm at Chief Ben Paskwa Memorial Hall.
  • A winter festival on February 23rd, 2010, with one day of sliding, ice fishing, skating and possibly horse rides.  We will have a fire for warmth and wiener roast.  Our ERT team will be in attendance in case any unforseen circumstances should occur.  We would like to thank the following for their donation to our Winter Festival:
    • Matt's Furniture in Fort Qu'Appelle for the four pictures donated.
    • Mainline Insurance Brokers Inc. (monetary donation)
    • Jackson Brother's Industries Ltd. (monetary donation)
    • Peace Hills Trust (monetary donation)
    • Parkland College - prize donation
    • Paskwa Pit Stop (monetary donation)
  • We will have teams registered in the Fort Qu'Appelle Soccer League again this year but we now have eight certified referrees on Pasqua so we can now have home games.
  • The school has a wrestling program for our youth as well as boxing.
  • We had a halloween dance, which the youth and children enjoyed.  We also had a round dance for the Addictions week and we had approximately thirty six singers, with a good turn out.  The Christmas Celebrations were entertaining as CPEC had their Christmas concert at the meal.  It was a very good meal with wonderful children acting and singing for the crowd!
  • We would like to also thank Kevin Missens for the hockey equipment that he donated to the Sports and Recreation Program.

There has been many volunteers for events and activities that were held or lessons that children needed rides, chaperones, cooks, etc.  I would like to acknowledge all of our volunteers and "megwetch'.
